Super scorer, super spiker - Wallace

Krakow, Poland, July 13, 2016 - All eyes will be on Brazilian wing spiker Wallace De Souza when the FIVB Volleyball World League Finals start on Wednesday to see if he will continue his dominance of the scoring charts, having finished as the Preliminary Round best scorer among the players participating in the Final Six with 130 points (109 spikes, 17 blocks, 4 serves).

Having had surgery on his back in 2015 that put him out of the national team for the whole season, Wallace has made a superb return in 2016, with an eye to further top performances in the FIVB Volleyball World League Finals and Rio 2016.

He already knows the taste of individual honours as he was elected the best opposite spiker in the FIVB Volleyball World League 2014 with Brazil winning the silver medal. He also repeated the good performance in Brazil's silver medal campaign at the FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship in Poland. In 2013, Wallace led Brazil to the FIVB World Grand Champions Cup title and was elected the best opposite spiker of the competition.

Wallace has been an integral part of the Brazilian team for the past six years when fit. In 2010, he won the World League title. In 2011, he won a gold medal at the Pan American Games and finished the season with the World Cup bronze medal.

Not only is Wallace leading (amongst the Finals participants) the scoring stakes but he also topped the Best Spikers table with 55,90% from 195 total attempts from which 109 spikes, 25 faults and 61 shots.

A total of $100,000 is awarded to the best players of the Finals, which will be selected by the Control Committee in the following categories:
MVP, Best Setter, Best Opposite, Best Outside Spiker (2), Best Middle Blocker, Best Libero.
