Brazil suffered just one defeat in the second weekend when they lost to Serbia 3-1. Eight victories saw them end the Preliminary Round at the top of the ranking.

Last year Brazil were assured a place in Finals as hosts, but failed to finish better than fifth. The golden era of the Brazil team dates back to the years between 2003 and 2007 when they claimed the competition on five consecutive occasions. The Brazilians won back-to-back World League titles again in 2009 and 2010 and finished second in 2013 and 2014.
