Westphal: It was our best match

Germany overpowered Spain 3-1 on Sunday

Almaty, Kazakhstan, June 26, 2016 – Germany grabbed their second win in Group 3 of FIVB Volleyball World League with a 3-1 match (20-25, 25-21, 25-16, 25-14) against Spain at the Baluan Sholak Sports Palace on Sunday.

Vital Heynen, coach of Germany: Our goal was to keep getting better and better. We were not doing this last weekend. I did not like all of our performances but I find that it gets better. We improved and if we do this every day, then we are prepared for the semifinals.

Dirk Westphal, captain of Germany: I think it was our best match of this year’s World League campaign. I am quite happy that I can see and the coach can see that our level is going up. We played good volleyball. Maybe we can defend a little better but I think we did good in all the elements and all the skills. It was a good day today.

Fernando Muñoz, coach of Spain: In the technical and tactical aspects of the match, Germany had the control. I also think there was pressure for some players in this game, but one of the targets in this World League is to find the players for the future. These players must get used to this kind of game and level of competition.

Jorge Fernandez, captain of Spain: Maybe we played with a little extra pressure. Today, Germany played better than we did. I want to congratulate them for the match and good luck for the finals.
