Qatar hope to stop Greece's winning run

 

Thessaloniki, Greece, June 25, 2016 - Greece and Qatar have never met at a major tournament before, but there is a first time for everything.  The two sides will go face to face on Saturday at the FIVB Volleyball World League 2016 Group 3 tournament in Thessaloniki.

Head-to-Head
• This will be the first ever meeting between Greece and Qatar at a major tournament. 
• Greece lost seven of their 16 World League matches against AVC sides, but have won their last two meetings with AVC sides (against Kazakhstan and Chinese Taipei in 2016). 
• They could win three in a row for the third time, after three consecutive wins against Japan in both 2002 and 2003. 

Greece
• Greece have won all four matches in the 2016 World League. It is the first time they began a World League campaign with four wins.
• They can now win at least five consecutive World League matches for the second time, after a run of six wins in 2001.
• Greece have won eight of their 10 matches at major competitions since the start of 2015.
• Andreas-Dimitrios Fragkos is Greece's top scorer in the 2016 World league with 56 points.
• Fragkos has a 69.4% success rate with his spikes (50 points). 

Qatar
• Qatar have lost three of their four World League matches in this debut campaign.
• They could lose two matches in a row in straight sets for the first time in the World League.
• Qatar have yet to play their first five-setter in the World League.
• Bojan Djukic is Qatar's top scorer with 48 points.
