Qatar begin World League preparations

Qatar will make their World League debut in 2016

Doha, Qatar, May 26, 2016 – Qatar have begun the build-up to their FIVB Volleyball World League debut under the watchful eye of new coach Roberto Piazza at the Qatar Volleyball Indoor Hall.

The Gulf state is making its debut in the World League after they finished fourth in the 2015 Asian Volleyball Championships.

Piazza’s team will travel to Slovenia on June 4 to make their World League bow against host nation Slovenia in its capital Ljubljana on June 17. They then face Venezuela and Tunisia. In the second weekend they travel to Thessaloniki in Greece to face Slovenia again, Greece and Puerto Rico.

The Group 3 Final takes place in Frankfurt, Germany on July 1-2.

Piazza signed a one-year contract with Qatar and takes over from Argentinian Juan Manuel Cichello. He brings two decades of coaching experience with him, most recently a stint as assistant coach to the German team that won gold at the Azerbaijan 2015, European Games.

“I know that Cichello had done a great job with the national team,” Piazza said. “I would like to extend his good work. My main aim would be to maintain the level.”
