Preliminary Round honours for Bojic in World League Group 3

 

Marko Bojic celebrates winning a point against Mexico on Sunday

Lausanne, Switzerland, June 29, 2016 - After finishing second to Andrés Villena of Spain in week one, Montenegro's Marko Bojic scored 10 points against Venezuela, 22 points against Tunisia and 15 points against Mexico to claim top spot on the FIVB Volleyball World League Group 3 scorer leaderboard in week 2.

Bojic's outstanding scoring performances, however, were not sufficient to qualify Montenegro for the Group 3 Finals in Frankfurt, Germany from July 1-2. Slovenia, Greece and Chinese Taipei finished ahead of last year's debutants and Group 3 finalists to qualify for the Group 3 semifinals on Friday.

Bojic currently stands at the top of the Group 3 scorers' leaderboard with 125 points. This week's semifinals and finals will decide whether he retains his place or whether his closest rivals from the teams playing in Germany - Slovenia's Mitja Gasparini (87 points), Andreas-Dimitrios Fragkos of Greece or Chien-Chen Chen of Chinese Taipei (both 82 points) - are able to move ahead of the Montenegrin.

FIVB Volleyball World League Group 3 - Statistics

After six matches played, Bojic is on the same number of points as Group 2 top scorer Ahmed Elkotb of Egypt (125). Group 1 top scorer Tsvetan Sokolov of Bulgaria has scored 108 points.
