Kozani, Greece, June 19, 2016 – A first win of the tournament will be on Puerto Rico’s agenda when they face Kazakhstan on Sunday.
Head-to-Head
· Puerto Rico and Kazakhstan will face each other for the first time at a major tournament.
· Kazakhstan's most recent meeting with a NORCECA side came at the 2006 World Championship. They were defeated by Canada in straight sets in the first group stage.
· Puerto Rico have lost their last nine matches against AVC sides since a 3-1 win over Australia at the 2010 World Championship.
Puerto Rico
· Puerto Rico lost their first two matches at the 2016 World League against Chinese Taipei and Greece, both in straight sets.
· The last time they lost more consecutive matches by 3-0 was in 2011, when they lost four times in straight sets.
· Last year, they started with five defeats before defeating Tunisia in their final match.
· Steven Morales has scored 30 points, most of all Puerto Rican players.
Kazakhstan
· Kazakhstan have won their last match at the World League against Chinese Taipei (3-0), after losing the first of the 2016 edition against Greece (3-0).
· Another win would make 2016 their most successful World League campaign as they won only one match in their debut season in 2015.
· Vitaliy Vorivodin scored a team-high 16 points against Chinese Taipei. He equalled Maxim Mamedov as team top scorer of the competition. They are now both on a total of 25.
