Germany grab first win in World League Group 3

Germany start the celebrations after 3-0 win o ver Kazakhstan

Almaty, Kazakhstan, June 24, 2016 – Germany got their first taste of victory in Group 3 of the FIVB Volleyball World League by beating Kazakhstan 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 27-25) at the Baluan Sholak Sports Palace on Friday.

Christian Fromm led all scorers in the field with 14 points from 10 attacks, two blocks, and two service winners. Ruben Schott, Georg Klein and Philipp Collin amplified Germany’s offence with double-digit scores. Maxim Mamedov and Vitaliy Vorivodin combined for a total of 22 points as the best scorers for the host team.

It was clear from the opening set that Germany’s setter Jan Zimmerman was going to utilise his hitters from all angles. Kazakhstan attempted to be aggressive in offence in front of their home crowd, but they were prone to errors in attack and reception. The German side kept to their wide array of offensive options and ran more combinations but it wasn't enough as the tie headed into the second set.

Kazakhstan was left to their issues in defence, as they could not receive nor run their plays effectively. Germany continued their impressive play and served with more power and picked up several aces. Collin sealed the second set with a slammer from the middle for a 25-19 score.

Kazakhstan tried to fight back in the third set with a better passing display and they made up for their earlier miscues and posted better defensive coverage to get the 8-7 lead at the first technical time-out. They pursued every point to maintain control of the set however, Germany’s firepower eventually caught up with the hosts, who were unable to handle the crucial moments towards the end as the visitors sealed the victory.
