Germany and Slovenia to lock horns for Group 3 gold

 

Frankfurt, Germany, July 2, 2016 - Hosts Germany will face Slovenia in the FIVB Volleyball World League 2016 Group 3 final on Saturday in Frankfurt.

Head-to-Head
• These teams will meet each other for the first time in the World League.
• Slovenia have played two matches against CEV sides in the competition, both against Greece. They lost last week and won on Friday.
• Germany have played 70 matches against European nations, winning 25 and losing 45.
• Germany have a 100% winning record against two teams in the World League: Greece (4 wins) and Kazakhstan (1 win). Slovenia could become the third.

Slovenia
• Slovenia secured their shot for gold in Group 3 by beating Greece, a team that beat them last week.
• Against Greece, Mitja Gasperini again was Slovenia’s top scorer (12 points). He now has 99 points in the tournament.
• Slovenia improved their record to six wins and one defeat. Four of their six wins came in straight sets.
• Slovenia have yet to play a five-setter in the World League. All their matches ended 3-0 or 3-1.

Germany
• Germany reached the final in Group 3 by beating Chinese Taipei in Frankfurt (3-0). Christian Fromm was their top scorer with 17 points, including 13 spikes.
• This win snapped a four-match losing streak on home soil, as they lost twice against France and twice against Argentina in 2014. This was their longest losing streak at home since 2003, when they suffered five consecutive defeats.
• Germany have a 43% winning percentage in the World League (3 wins in 7 matches), which is slightly better than their previous World League participation in 2014 (42%, 5 out of 12).
