Germany and Chinese Taipei do over in different set-up

 

Frankfurt, Germany, June 30, 2016 - Chinese Taipei beat Germany last Saturday in Kazakhstan in the pool phase of FIVB Volleyball World League 2016, but as they meet again this Friday, the whole set-up will be different.  The Group 3 semifinal will take place in Germany and the winner will earn the right to play for gold the following day.

Head-to-Head
• Germany and Chinese Taipei will meet for the second time at the World League following their match-up last Saturday. In Almaty (Kazakhstan), Chinese Taipei won 3-1 with Chen Chien-Chen and Daniel Malesch both scoring 23 points.
• Their only other competitive encounter this century came at the 2008 World Olympic Qualification Tournament in Düsseldorf,  which Germany won in straight sets. The German team eventually qualified for the Olympic Games in Beijing.
• Germany have won 7 of their last 10 World League matches against AVC opposition and 5 of their last 7. 

Germany
• Germany have won 33% of their World League matches this season (2 out of 6 matches). Only in 2001 (0%, 0 out of 12), 1992 (8%, 1 out of 12) and in 1994 (17%, 2 out of 12) they have had a lower winning percentage in the competition.
• If they beat Chinese Taipei, they with have a 43% winning percentage, which is just better than their previous World League participation in 2014 (42%, 5 out of 12).
• Germany have lost their last four World League matches on home soil, twice against France and twice against Argentina in 2014.
• Germany have won their last World League match in Frankfurt am Main, when they defeated Russia 3-2 on 6 July 2013, including the final set in 18-16.

Chinese Taipei
• Debutants Chinese Taipei have won four of their six matches in the World League, including their last three last weekend, winning 3-1 against Spain, 3-1 versus Germany and 3-1 against Kazakhstan.
• Chinese Taipei have yet to play a five-set match at the World League.
• Lin Yung-Shun is the second best receiver in Group 3 this World League season with an efficiency of 60%. Only Venezuela's Héctor Mata has a higher percentage (61%).
