Sammelvuo: The team has grown better in every match

Finland's Jan Helenius spikes past Canadian block

Tampere, Finland, July 3, 2016 – Finland beat Canada 3-2 (25-22, 18-25, 25-20, 21-25, 15-13) in the last match of FIVB World League Group 2 Pool I on Sunday.

Tuomas Sammelvuo, coach of Finland: This was a good ending for us in the World League. Every player has given all for the team. It has been nice to see that the team has grown better and better in every match. We didn’t qualify for the Final Four, but it doesn’t matter too much, because the team has played well.

Eemi Tervaportti, captain of Finland: The feeling is of course great. I must be proud of this team. I think that nobody believed before the World League that we would play as well as we did and take six victories in nine matches. In this match second and fourth set were bad, but we didn’t give up and we believed ourselves till the end.

Glenn Hoag, coach of Canada: This was an exciting match for the fans. Finland played very well. We missed a bit concentration and we must find solution to that before Rio. The guys did their best but it wasn’t enough this time.

Fred Winters, captain of Canada: This was of course a disappointing end for us because we had won all the previous matches. Finland's teenagers played very well. They put us pressure with their serves and we didn’t expect that. We had some problems with our serves. Now we must forget this and concentrate on the Final Four.
