Olli-Pekka Ojansivu of Finland was the leading scorer in World League Group 2 last week
Lausanne, Switzerland, June 22, 2016 - Finland's Olli-Pekka Ojansivu currently leads the FIVB Volleyball World League Group 2 best scorers' statistics with a total of 68 points. He scored 19 points in Finland's loss to Japan last Friday before claiming 29 points in his team's five-set victory against Korea on Saturday and 20 points in their victory against Cuba on Sunday. His total puts him five points ahead of Ahmed Elkotb of Egypt, and 16 ahead of Alexandre Ferreira of Portugal.
World League Group 2 statisticsPerhaps Finland's most well-known volleyball player, Ojansivu, also known as 'Lelu', was outscored by Group 3's leading points machine Andrés Villena of Spain, who claimed 84 points for his team in week one. Ojansivu scored 12 points more than Tsvetan Sokolov of Bulgaria, however, who is currently the top scorer in Group 1.
Japan (7 points), Finland (5 points) and Cuba (4 points) all won two matches in Pool B2 last weekend. Finland will take on Egypt, Japan and Turkey in Pool E2 in Cairo next weekend while Cuba, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands and Slovakia play in Pool D2 in Bratislava and Canada, China, Korea and Portugal play in Pool F2 in Saskatoon.
Ojansivu's 68 points last weekend included 48 spikesOjansivu made his national team debut against Estonia in Olympic qualification in 2007. He has won the Finnish championship four times, including a victory this year with Kokkolan Tiikerit. He has also played for clubs in Greece, France, Turkey, Romania and Russia.
