Francisco Santos: This could have gone either way

Portugal's Alexander Ferreira spikes past the Finnish block

Tampere, Finland, July 1, 2016 - Portugal defeated Finland in five sets - 3-2 (22-25, 25-21, 19-25, 26-24, 15-12) in the second match of FIVB Volleyball World League 2016 Group 2 Pool I on Friday.

Francisco Santos, coach of Portugal: "I would like to praise Finland for their style of playing. It was very hard for us to adapt. At this kind of a technical level of play this could have gone either way."

Tuomas Sammelvuo, coach of Finland: "Exciting game! We had our chances at the end of the fourth set and also in the fifth set, but we could not use them. Small errors made the difference. Portugal had better reception and very good attack. In the fifth set they made good choices in blocking."

Alexandre Ferreira, captain of Portugal: "Our better reception made the big difference today. Every time we play against Finland it is very hard and now we are happy that we won. Finland are a difficult team for us."

Eemi Tervaportti, captain of Finland: "At this level you must use your chances if you get them and we did not. At the end the Portuguese reception got better and that was the reason we could not win today."
