First WL match in 13 years between Cuba and Finland

 

Osaka, Japan, June 18, 2016 – Cuba and Finland will meet in the FIVB Volleyball World League for the first time in 23 years when they clash in Osaka, Japan on Sunday.

Head-to-Head
· Cuba and Finland have met four times at the World League, all in 1993. Cuba won all four meetings losing only one set.
· The most recent match between these teams came at the 2014 World Championship when Finland won in five sets after trailing 2-0.
· That win became Finland's first ever win over Cuba in all six meetings at major competitions.

Cuba
· Both of Cuba's matches in the 2016 World League were five setters and in both matches Cuba prevailed. 
· Cuba have won the last six five-set matches in the World League. Their last loss came against Iran in 2013. 
· The last time when Cuba won the first three matches in a single World League campaign was in 2014 when they won the first five. This was also the last time they had a longer streak than their current streak of two victories.
· Osmany Santiago Uriarte Mestre scored a team-high 35 points in the 2016 World Leauge.

Finland
· Finland won their second match of this World League campaign against Korea 3-2. This win marked their 50th in the tournament's history.
· They have now won their last two five-set matches they played at the World League. They lost the three previous five-setters.
· Finland's leading scorer Olli-Pekka Ojansivu (48 points) scored a team-high 29 points against Korea.
