Egypt rout Turkey with Elkotb's stunning 29 points

 

Egypt players celebrate the victory over Turkey

Cairo, Egypt, June 26, 2016 - Ahmed Elkotb proved to be unstoppable claiming 29 points to his name as Egypt adjusted to defeat Turkey 3-1 (23-25, 25-18, 25-23, 31-29).

The second best-scorer on the winning side was Ahmed Afifi with 15 points whilst Metin Toy (17 points) and Kadir Cin (13 points) led the rankings for Turkey.

This was the first defeat in six matches for the Turkish team in the 2016 World League.


Set one saw both teams trading points from the start to the end and it was anyone's guess to predict the winner. Finally it was team Turkey who kept their nerves calm to take the set 25-23.

In the second set the fans in Cairo witnessed again a point-by-point race until Egypt gained the momentum and raced out to a 17-12 lead. This proved to be to much for Turkey who had to accept a 25-18 defeat.




Set three was the copy of set one only the winner changed as this time Egypt managed to earn a narrow advantage to eventually finish it off at 25-23.

The fourth set was again a very tight affair as Egypt needed 31 points to beat Turkey.
