Cuba and Portugal each seeking their third win

 

Tampere, Finland, July 3, 2016 - Cuba and Portugal face each other on the last day of the FIVB Volleyball World League 2016 Group 2 tournament each looking for their third victory of the season.

Head-to-Head
• Cuba have met Portugal eight times in the World League. Cuba won all eight previous meetings.
• Cuba have only played more matches against Japan in the World League (13) without losing one. They also met Egypt eight times without ever losing in the World League.
• Their last meeting came in 2001. On 10 June of that year, Cuba won in straight sets.

Cuba
• Cuba lost 3-1 against Finland on Saturday, to record their 150th defeat in World League history.
• Only Korea (174) and Japan (218) have lost more matches in the World League than Cuba (150).
• Cuba have now lost their last six World League matches and can lose seven matches in row for the first time in the competition since June 2013.
• Cuba have lost 10 of their last 11 World League matches against CEV opponents, including their last nine.
• Rolando Cepeda Abreu scored a team-high 16 points for Cuba in their 3-1 loss against Finland..

Portugal
• Portugal lost 3-0 against Canada on Saturday. They have now lost 10 of their last 12 World League matches.
• The last time Portugal lost back-to-back World League matches by a 3-0 scoreline was in May 2012, when they kicked off their campaign with three straight-set defeats in a row.
• Only Japan (110), Korea (83) and China (83) have lost more World League matches in straight sets than Portugal (61).
• Joao Oliviera scored a match-high 14 points for Portugal in their 3-0 defeat against Canada (13 spikes).
