Coskun leads Turkey to a victory over Netherlands

 

A spike from Turkey's best-scorer Serhat Coskun

Izmir, Turkey, June 19, 2016 - Serhat Coskun scored team-high 15 points as Turkey saw off Netherlands in straight sets (25-21, 25-20, 25-23) in the FIVB World League Pool A encounter.

The second best-scorer for the winning tam was Baturalp Burak Gungor with 13 points while Netherlands' Maarten Van Garderen scored match-high 17 points adding to the 23 points from the previous matches.

Turkey have won fourth of the five meetings against Netherlands in all official matches.




In the early set one both teams were trading points until Netherlands settled into a rhythm a won three consecutive points to race out at 6-3. Turkey was trying to take control of the match and managed to get a 2-point margin at 17-15, to eventually close out the set at 25-21.




In set two Turkey took an early lead 8-4 and quickly ran out to an 14-6 advantage as Kadir Cin was bombing from the serves scoring two aces. Netherlands was rather quiet team and Turkey took the second set with relative ease 25-20.

Set three was of a similar vein to the first one as Netherlands took an early lead 4-1 thanks to killing serves from Wouter Ter Maat. Turkey, however, managed to find their steady pace and went up 8-7 at the first technical timeout, but Netherlands refused to give up as Maarten Van Garderen's hits gave them an 13-10 advantage. The set saw then another comeback from the Turkish team who gained a narrow margin 22-21 a carried it over to a 25-23 victory.
