Coach Hoag: Every play is a step toward Rio

TJ Sander said he was a little tired after playing all three matches over the weekend

Saskatoon, Canada, June 27, 2016 - Canada coach Glenn Hoag praised setter TJ Sander's focus as his side dispatched Portugal in four sets to conclude the second weekend of the FIVB Volleyball World League.

Canada coach, Glenn Hoag: "I am really happy with the win. The third match of the weekend is always the toughest. Especially for guys like (setter) TJ Sanders who is always in. He stayed focused with new guys coming in.  It’s kind of nice to see the team able to sustain a certain level. We can play better, but we’re training hard right now pushing for Rio so the guys are not 100-percent physically. They are able to focus and execute. Every play is a step toward Rio.”

Canada setter Tyler (TJ) Sanders: "I’m a little exhausted, but when we come back to Canada everybody’s so excited, maybe there’s a little bit more nerves, but it was fantastic to get the three wins this weekend."

Portugal captain Alexander Ferreira: "I think we made a lot of mistakes. Canada is a very strong team. It was good to see what this kind of team can do in the final. It’s good for us. I think we are doing well step by step and I hope we get to the final four without too many mistakes."
