Canada hope to stay perfect in World League 2016

 

Tampere, Finland, June 30, 2016 - Canada are the only yet undefeated  team in FIVB Volleyball World League 2016 Group 2 and hope to maintain their perfect record as next they meet Cuba, a team that is on a five-match losing streak. The two sides will open this weekend's tournament in Finland.

Head-to-Head
• Canada and Cuba have met four times in the 2015 World League. Canada won the first three meetings before Cuba won the last in five sets.
• Their most recent meeting came in the World Olympic Qualification tournament when Cuba won in straight sets against Canada.
• This is also a replay of the 2015 NORCECA Championships final when Canada proved too strong (3-1).

Canada
• Canada are the only team to remain unbeaten in Group 2 in the 2016 World League as they won all six matches so far.
• The last time they won more consecutive World League matches was in 2013 when they won seven (team record).
• In 2013, Canada recorded a fifth place in the World League, their best result ever.
• Steven Marshall has scored a team-high 57 points in the 2016 World League including a team-high 49 spikes.

Cuba
• Cuba have lost their last five World League matches. They have not lost five in a row since 2013 when they lost six consecutive matches. 
• Cuba lost in five sets against Czech Republic and Netherlands. The last time they lost three consecutive five setters was in 2002. They ended the streak with a five set win over Bulgaria.
• Luis Tomas Sosa Sierra has scored a team-high 70 points in the 2016 World League.
