Canada coach Glenn Hoag is proud of his players

Matosinhos, Portugal, July 9, 2016 – Canada overcame Turkey 3-0 (26-24, 25-17, 25-23) at Centro de Desportos e Congressos in Matosinhos on Saturday afternoon. Read here what the coaches and captains said after the match.

Canada coach Glenn Hoag: I am very proud of my players. We played without an opposite player and still we managed to win, as everybody gave their best and played as a team. I would like to play the Final against Portugal. It is the home team and we know them well. Today was too hot here at the hall, but as we played in different conditions throughout the preliminary round, that also helps our preparation for Rio 2016.

Canada captain Frederic Winters: It was a good victory, which allows us to play tomorrow for the Group 2 title. We have studied well the Turkish team and we played smoothly without making many errors. I believe that was the foundation of this win. I would like to play Portugal at the Final. We know them very well because we played them for some times in the last editions of FIVB World League.

Turkey coach Emanuelle Zanini: We have opened up a window because we had never played at this level and reached a final four. Now we are facing new challenges and growing as a team. We had some opportunities in the match against Canada but we never managed to build a safe margin. Canada is a very strong team with high experienced players, which they shown in the third set; while our players, still unexperienced at this level, were beaten by emotion.

Turkey captain Ulas Kiyak: Tomorrow we will play for the bronze medal. We will use the lesson that we took from this match and improve some aspects of our game. Therefore, we will come out strong. Canada is the best team in Group 2; the Canadian players were better and deserved the win.
