Rocamora-Ruiz connection carries Spain to 3-0 win

 

Spain overpowered Kazakhstan 3-0 on Saturday

Almaty, Kazakhstan, June 25, 2016 – Daniel Rocamora and Francisco Ruiz served as the main weapons for Spain’s straight-set victory (25-22, 25-18, 25-21) against hosts Kazakhstan in Group 3 of the FIVB Volleyball World League.

Saturday’s match at the Baluan Sholak Sports Palace saw a complete game for the Spanish side, with Rocamora (19 points) and Ruiz (11 points) working well from the flanks. Alejandro Vigil made for a strong game at the middle and picked up another 10 points for coach Fernando Muñoz’ squad. 



In the opening set, the hosts went off to a good start and handled their orchestration well. Captain Alexandr Stolnikov was the primary hitter for the as he swung from his favoured side on the left. Spain went to a good run with their hitters. Rocamora stuck to the right side while and Ruiz fired from all flanks. The hosts had their share of good swings for a close fight, but Spain handled their endgame better, to win 25-22 in the first set. 




Maxim Mamedov ignited Kazakhstan’s offence as he operated from the wings. Rocamora continued on with his rampage as he looked unstoppable from the right flank. With heavy-handed attacks and service winners, Spain rallied through a 25-18 win in the second set.


By the third set, it was clear that Spain had full control of their game. They served well and they blocked effectively as Vigil guarded the net. It was Spain’s over-all composure and cohesiveness that worked well to a 25-21 win in the final set.
