Djukic leads Qatar to the first victory in FIVB World League

Ljubljana, Slovenia, June 19, 2016 - Bojan Djukic scored match high 18 points as Qatar beat Tunisia 3-1 (25-22, 25-20, 23-25, 25-20) in Pool A3 in FIVB World League 2016.

This was the first-ever encounter between the nations and Qatar registered first and historic win in FIVB World League.





Qatar started the match with great determination after suffering two consecutive losses and opened up a three point lead at 5-2. But, Tunisians caught up at 6. Afterwards it was a head-to-head race with neither team being able to claim a comfortable lead. The luckiest and the strongest in the late stage were Qatar who used the first set point when they blocked the Tunisian attack at 25-22 to move 1-0 up in the match. 

In the second set score remained tied up as neither team managed to move more than one point ahead. Again it was Qatar who raced off into the four point lead at 17-13 and again at 22-18. They evetually closed the set out at 25-20.




Roberto Piazza’s team moved into the lead in the third set as well at 8-5 just to see the Tunisians levelling the result at 9-9 and easily cruise to a 4-point lead at 16-12. Qatari regained their forces to close the gap at 17 after winning the longest rally of the match. Tunisians fought hard to stay in the match and moved up again by 3 points at 23-20 to finish it off at 25-23. 

The fourth set was back and forth untill 7-7 when Qatar pulled away to 12-9 and never looked back. They wrapped up the match at 25-20.
