Coach Gido Vermeulen cheering

Bratislava, Slovakia, June 24, 2016 - The coach of the Netherlands Gido Vermeulen is proud of his team after they bounced back and won against hosts Slovakia by 3-1 in Bratislava. Slovakia's coach Miroslav Palgut thinks that bad service was the main reason of his squad's loss.

Gido Vermeulen, coach of the Netherlands: "We played a very bad match yesterday, so I am proud of my players after they bounced back very well. We started incredibly well. After the first set Slovakia made substitutions and we needed some time in the second set to adjust. Then we played very well again in the third set and the fourth set was close, because Slovakia did not want to lose and they were trying all of nothing. Our team stayed cool and we managed to win in four sets. We are happy."

Miroslav Palgut, coach of Slovakia: "Our problem today was the service and the reception. We made 22 serving mistakes and this is a very big number. The fourth set was very close, but we made 7 mistakes from the serving area. We knew that the Netherlands is a strong team and we hope that we will show better performance against the Czech Republic."

Jeroen Rauwerdink, spiker of the Netherlands: "It was difficult to stand up after the game yesterday, because we lost a hard match in five sets and we did not play well. We said to each other before this match that we have to fight against Slovakia from the first point and we played well. It was close in the fourth set, but we managed to fight and we are very happy that we won in four sets. I know Emanuel Kohut from Slovakia's team we played together in Italy and it was nice to see him."

Jan Halaj, setter of Slovakia: "We fought to achieve the best result, but unfortunately the serving was our problem. The Netherlands played without their first opposite who is injured, but they are still a very good team. We need to forget about this and concentrate on our last match against the Czech team."
