Raul Lozano was born in La Plata, Argentina. He played as setter for the national team in his prime but his greatest achievements have come as a coach. Lozano is considered one of the best coaches in the world. He began coaching youth teams in his hometown, then levelled up to take responsibility for various clubs in Italy, Greece and Poland. He directed the national teams of Spain in 1994-1997 and 1999-2000, Poland in 2005-2008, and Germany in 2008-2011. He led Spain to a silver medal finish in the World University Games in Japan and a fifth place finish in the World League and World Cup in 1999. Lozano’s biggest success was Poland’s silver medal in the 2006 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship, for which he also received a state award – the Knight’s Cross of Polonia Restituta - granted by the Polish president Lech Kaczynski for his outstanding contribution to the development of Polish sport.
