Rome, Italy, June 25, 2016 - USA prevailed 3-1 (20-25, 25-17, 25-23, 25-20) over Australia. "There are a lot of good volleyball teams in the World League", said the winners' coach Speraw.
John Speraw, coach of USA: It was a good match, there are a lot of good volleyball teams in the World League. The differences between the top 10 teams are all pretty negligible and I think we played really good authentic through most of the match, there was time we didn’t put enough pressure on the other team with our service, and I’m happy we were able to put a couple of young guys on the court to come away with the wind.
I would like to think we play really well all the time, we have not necessarily, since the World League started, been at the level we would like to be at, but it’s early in the summer. Focus and training are ok, other areas of our game are not complete yet and we need to work on that.
Roberto Santilli, coach of Australia: We did good at the beginning of the game. Unfortunately this is a very young team and for some of our players is the first international experience. We did better than yesterday and if it’s true that with failure comes wisdom, next game we should do even better.
Matthew Anderson, USA: It was a good match…we won. It is typical, sometimes we were not really in rhythm, they had some good service and put pressure on us. Ultimately I think it was great for our team to calm down, relax and trust in ourselves and trust that our attacks would come through and put the ball.
Grigory Sukochev, captain of Australia: From the last time it was certainly better than the last game. We attacked for an hour and we can surely show them that we are among of the top teams. Credit to the USA, they fought hard kept their consistency, their attack was great.
