Italy and Argentina to open tournament in Tehran

 

Tehran, Iran, June 30, 2016 - Italy and Argentina will play at the first match of the FIVB Volleyball World League 2016 Group 1 tournament set to start in Iran on Friday.

Head-to-Head
• Italy have won 10 of their 15 World League matches against Argentina.
• Italy won only two of their first six encounters with Argentina (1998-2000), but they have since won eight of their next nine clashes (2000-2013).
• Italy won their most recent encounter, 3-2 (16-14 fifth set) at the 2015 World Cup.
• Argentina's last win was a 3-1 victory at the 2014 World Championship.
 
Italy
• Italy have won four of their six World League matches in 2016. All their matches have resulted in a 3-0 score (W4-L2).
• They won five of their first seven matches in last year's World League. Only one of those wins was a straight-set victory, against Australia on 14 June 2015.
• Luca Vettori has scored a team-high 82 points in the 2016 World League.
• Ivan Zaytsev has an average of 52.9 as receiver. Argentina's Alexis Gonzalez has recorded an average of 53 so far in the 2016 World League.

Argentina
• Argentina can win three matches in a row for the first time in the 2016 World League. They lost their first four matches this campaign.
• Their longest winning streak in the 2015 World League was a three-match run with wins against Bulgaria and Canada (2) in June 2015.
• Cristian Poglajen is Argentina's top scorer in the 2016 World League with 84 points, including nine aces.
• Sebastian Solé has 16 stuff blocks, second most in Group 1 after Simon Van De Voorde (BEL, 18).
