Iran and Italy in remake of 2014 bronze medal match

 

Tehran, Iran, July 2, 2016 - Iran and Italy will meet at the FIVB Volleyball World League 2016 Group 1 tournament in Tehran in a remake of their bronze medal match in the 2014 edition.

Head-to-Head
• Iran and Italy will clash for the eighth time in the World League and for the first time since the 2014 third place decider (3-0 win Italy).
• Italy have won four of the previous seven World League meetings. Iran are on three wins.
• Three of Italy's four World League victories over Iran came in straight sets.

Iran
• On Friday, Iran defeated Serbia 3-2 to improve to three wins and four defeats on the season.
• Iran are looking to close out a World League weekend with a winning record for the first time this season. They went 1-2 on their first two weekends this season.
• Iran have won nine of their last 11 World League matches in front of a home crowd..

Italy
• Italy rebounded from their defeat against USA by beating Argentina 3-1 on Friday.
• It was the first of seven World League matches involving Italy this season that was not decided in straight sets.
• Just like last season, Italy have started with five wins from their first seven World League matches. Last season, they followed that up with four successive defeats.
