Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, June 18, 2016 – Iran and Argentina will come together in Rio de Janeiro in a repeat of their FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Cup match last year.
Head-to-Head
· This is the sixth meeting between these teams in a competitive match. Argentina have won three and Iran two of the previous five matches.
· Their most recent encounter was at the 2015 World Cup, when Argentina won 3-1.
· Iran's last victory over Argentina came at the 2014 World Championship (3-0).
· This is the first World League encounter between these countries.
Iran
· Iran could lose their first three matches of a World League season. This also happened to them in all their previous campaigns, 2013, 2014 and 2015.
· In 2013 and 2014 they claimed their first win in the fourth match. In 2015 they celebrated their first victory in their fifth match.
· Argentina become the ninth different opponent for Iran in the World League.
· Shahram Mahmoudi leads Iran in scoring with 28 points.
Argentina
· Argentina could lose their first three matches of a World League season for the first time since 2010, when they remained winless in all 14 matches.
· Argentina had won their last three competitive matches before this year's World League, at the South American Olympic Qualification tournament in 2015.
· Iran become the 21st different opponent for Argentina in the World League.
· Bruno Lima has scored a team high 23 points at the 2016 World League.
