European giants set to clash

 

Kaliningrad, Russia, June 19, 2016 – Serbia and Poland meet in Kaliningrad with both looking to end their weekend on a high.

Head-to-Head
· Serbia/Serbia and Montenegro and Poland have met 17 times at the World League, with the Serbian team winning 12 of those matches and the Polish team five. 
· Last year they met in the Final Round, with Serbia winning 3-2.
· This was Serbia's only victory in their last seven encounters with Poland in all competitions.
· The teams already met in 2016, at the European Olympic Qualification tournament. Poland won by 3-1.  
· In all major competitions, Serbia (incl. Yugoslavia and Serbia and Montenegro) have faced each other 41 times. Poland won 26 times, including the first 12 matches (all versus Yugoslavia between 1955 and 1989). 

Serbia
· Serbia won their first two matches at the 2016 World League in straight sets, against Russia and Bulgaria. 
· They could win three World League matches in straight sets for the first time since 2014, when they defeated Bulgaria twice and United States.
· Serbia could win their opening three matches for the first time since 2014. Last year, they lost their first two matches but won the third against Italy. 
· Uros Kovacevic scored a team-high 18 points in Serbia's win over Bulgaria. 

Poland
· Poland lost their second match in this tournament against Russia (3-1) after winning the first one against Bulgaria by the same score line (3-1).
· In 2015, Poland only lost consecutive group stage matches once as they were defeated twice by United States (3-1, 3-2). 
· Dawid Konarski scored a team-high 25 points in the World League for Poland.
