Brazil maintain first-set dominance through win against Bulgaria

Belgrade, Serbia, June 25, 2016 - Brazil have denied Bulgaria their first win of the FIVB World League 2016, beating them 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-12) with Wallace De Souza scoring a game-high 15 points.

It consigns Bulgaria to their sixth successive defeat in the 2016 tournament, but for Brazil it is their fifth win in their six World League matches in 2016.

Brazil had won the opening set in each of their past 12 World League matches and with Wallace firing early, they took a 12-6 lead over Bulgaria. After 24 minutes, Brazil added to their impressive first-set statistic in the World League, winning their 13th successive opening stanza, this time 25-14.

An improved Bulgaria performance helped them stay with Brazil in the early exchanges and they only trailed 13-16 at the second technical timeout of the second set. From there, with strong work from star scorer Tsvetan Sokolov, Bulgaria levelled things at 16-16, but Brazil came back themselves and won the second set 25-21.

Sokolov continued to be effective and went on to score a team-high 12 points, but with Wallace prominent, Brazil took the third set 25-12 and the match 3-0.
