Blengini: We played well when times got tough

Australian coach Roberto Santilli singled out Jordan Richards for praise

Sydney, Australia, June 19, 2016 - Italian coach Gianlorenzo Blengini was happy his team stayed true when times got difficult, while Australian coach Roberto Santilli was happy his team had shown improvement.

Gianlorenzo Blengini, coach of Italy: “It was not an easy match because it was the third match, and we are a work in progress and Australia plays at home. We had to fight, and when it was difficult we had to stay in the match.”

Roberto Santilli, coach of Australia: “I think we played much better than the first and second day. We put some young guys out there, and Richards and Peacock played well. Even if we play well, at the important moment we always make a mistake. It is through experience mainly.”

Simone Buti, captain of Italy: “Australia played very good volleyball, but in the difficult moments we played good volleyball. Now we can go back to Italy, we will be happy to play in front of our people.”

Greg Sukochev, captain of Australia: “We matched it with them for almost the entire game. Unfortunately we couldn’t take away any sets, but point-for-point it was a real battle. The stepping stones are there, we just have to take the steps.”
