Muñoz: We controlled the match

Press conference after Spain's victory over Kazakhstan on Saturday

Almaty, Kazakhstan, June 25, 2016 – Spain sailed through a straight-set victory (25-22, 25-18, 25-21) against home team Kazakhstan in Group 3 of the FIVB Volleyball World League at the Baluan Sholak Sports Palace on Saturday.

Fernando Muñoz, coach of Spain: I am happy for my players because they showed they have learned many important things from the game yesterday (against Chinese Taipei). Tactically, we controlled the match against Kazakshtan. We had some meetings after our loss yesterday to understand that our mental and psychological preparation has to be totally different.

Jorge Fernandez, captain of Spain: Today we played the way we know we should, from the beginning until the end. They (Kazakhstan) started aggressively with their serves but step by step, our reception improved. We also started serving well. Maybe, this was the key element in the match, our serves and our blocks.

Rafail Gilyazutdinov, coach of Kazakhstan: My team could not relax before the game. They were pretty nervous, and this caused them many mistakes. This is our main problem. We must be able to relax more before and during the match to be able to show our real character.

Alexandr Stolnikov, captain of Kazakhstan: Last year, we played against Spain, but we cannot compare these two matches. It was an entirely different and we just were not able to give our best in the match. I would like to congratulate the Spain team and I hope tomorrow, we will be able to play better.
