Best scorer Anderson leads USA to a victory over Australia

Rome, Italy, June 25, 2016 - Matt Anderson led USA to a 3-1 (20-25, 25-17, 25-23, 25-20) victory over Australia scoring team-high 18 points in the Pool E1 FIVB World League encounter.

Paul Carroll was Australia's top scorer with 20 points, extending his overall tally to 65 points.

United States and Australia met for the second time at the World League. Prevoiusly on 17 July 2014 the Americans won 3-1 in the Group Stage. Today's match ended with the same result as Australia won their first set in this yer's competition.

The first set in particular saw a perfect performance by Nathan Roberts and Jordan Richards, who powered their team to win. USA started slowly and with less aggression.

The things changed in the second set as William Priddy took his team by hand and Micah Christenson understood it, leaving aside the central net game that in the first set didn’t give any excellent results.

The third set was the most balanced one, in which both teams showed their best volleyball. The rallies were longer and the digs showed the will to win this important set. At the end of the day USA took the set in the late phase.

The last set saw Anderson’s show, as he collected 4 aces, 1 block and 4 points. The serve was the weapon in USA hands to definitively break the balance and to claim the victory.
