Korea hope to please home fans again

 

Seoul, Korea, July 1, 2016 - Korea finally came out of a 12-match FIVB Volleyball World League losing streak, using the home-court advantage to shut out Czechia on the first day of the 2016 Group 2 tournament in Seoul. Can they keep on winning though remains to be seen on Saturday when they face Egypt.

Head-to-Head
• Korea and Egypt have met four times at the World League. All four meetings came in 2006 with Korea winning them all.
• Egypt claimed a total of four sets in those four meetings: 3-1, 3-0, 3-2 and 3-1.
• Their last meeting at a world level tournament came at the 2007 World Cup. Egypt won 3-1.

Korea
• Korea celebrated a win against Czech Republic on Friday (3-0), which broke their 12-match losing streak at the World League.
• Korea can win back-to-back World League matches for the first time since the last weekend of the 2013 season, when they beat Portugal in both ends of a doubleheader (twice 3-1).
• Korea could lose a World League match for the 175th time. Only Japan (217) have suffered more defeats in the tournament.
• Seo Jae-Duck scored 19 of Korea’s 75 points against Czech Republic. Kim Hak-Min (11) was their other player reaching double figures in that match.

Egypt
• Egypt suffered a 3-1 defeat against Netherlands on Friday. This was their third defeat in this World League campaign, compared to four victories.
• Egypt could lose back-to-back matches in the World League for the first time since losing 10 straight in 2010.
• Between 2006 and 2010, Egypt won only six of their 48 matches. Since their return to the World League in 2015, Egypt have won 11 of 15. 
• Ahmed Elkotb scored a team-high 22 points against Netherlands, twice as many as the next most prolific goalscorer of Egypt Ahmed Afifi (11).
