Serbia meet Argentina en route to World League finals

 

Tehran, Iran, July 2, 2016 - Already qualified for the FIVB Volleyball World League 2016 Group 1 finals, Serbia will meet Argentina on the second competition day of the tournament in Iran.

Head-to-Head
• Serbia (incl. Serbia and Montenegro) and Argentina have met 17 times before in the World League. Argentina have won on six occasions. Serbia are on 11 wins.
• These nations last clashed at the World League on 30 June 2011, when Argentina won 3-0. 
• Serbia won the most recent competitive encounter, 3-1 at the 2014 World Championship.

Serbia
• Serbia lost 3-2 to Iran on Friday. They were 2-0 up in sets, but lost 16 to 14 in the fifth and final set.
• It was their first loss of the 2016 World League season and their first loss since losing the final to France in 2015.
• Serbia can lose back-to-back World League matches for the first time since consecutive 3-2 defeats to Australia and Italy in July 2015.
• Serbia's first three World League matches of this season were all 3-0 wins. Their following three matches were all 3-1 wins. Now they lost 3-2 to Iran.

Argentina
• After two consecutive World League wins Argentina lost 3-1 to Italy on Friday.
• Despite only being subbed in in the second set, Ezequiel Palacios scored a team-high 16 points for Argentina in that loss to Italy.
• Argentina's last three matches all ended with a different final result: 3-2 win over France, 3-0 win over Russia and a 3-1 defeat to Italy.
